In light of the recent super typhoon Haiyan (‘Yolanda”) and its devastating effects to the people of Leyte and Samar, our association is organizing a medical/surgical/ relief mission to the people of Baybay, Leyte, Salcedo and Guiuan, Samar this coming January 31- February 6, 2014 to bring medicines and relief goods to the people. We believe this will uplift the people's spirit by giving them hope at a time when many have lost their loved ones, their homes and everything they have. It is an unprecedented desolation to have experienced a disaster of this magnitude. We are seeking coordinated efforts with Medical Surgical Mission of Texas, FEU Medical Alumni of Las Vegas and Poor Household of God (headquartered in Glen Ellyn, IL). Our Ad Hoc committee, looking into the planning of this mission, is chaired by Dr. Edmundo Relucio. It is of much expediency that we seek your financial support to prevent more deaths and spread of disease in the affected areas of the region. There are more than 56,000 homes destroyed and more than 83,000 damaged throughout the region. There is no clean water and no sanitation. Cases of dysentery have already been reported. As of November 26, the death toll has reached more than 5,200. If you want to send your support, kindly mail your check payable to:

There is a time when we try to save for something, and then we realize that other people need the money more than we do. I believe this is that time. As this one Filipino lead negotiator in the UN Climate Change Conference in Doha, Quatar in 2012 said as he implores the help of all leaders of the world and ministers: “…If not us, then who? If not now, then when? If not here, then where?”

As Dr. Nilo Rivera, an FEU Medicine graduate of 1984, who was one of the first responders to stage a medical/relief mission to Ormoc, Leyte, puts it: "Sometimes we ask God why He allowed all these things to happen. But at our last day God answered me by the appearance of beautiful rainbow which signifies hope and that there is still a new and better tomorrow for the people in this region."

God bless our efforts.
