EVENT DATE: Jul 05, 2015
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Jul 31, 2015
“At the end of the day, as we look through history, we always go back to art. It is art that is going to save us….We come from a positive place. We’re helping young people to better themselves. We’re helping them so that they don’t end up in prison, or in jobs they hate or with a family they didn’t expect. There are a lot of things happening in the world that are not necessarily positive – Dance IS,” Fredrick Earl Mosley.
Each summer Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts (EMIA) brings together over 200 dancers ages 14 and above in a residential intensive where they learn not only to excel as dancers but to grow as individuals, and to take pride in who they are. EMIA provides a nurturing environment where a diverse community of dancers learn from a stellar line-up of artists as well as their peers, explore and expand their boundaries, and grow to understand that by supporting and encouraging each other, they strengthen and embolden themselves.
As Fana Tesfagiorgis, an EMIA alum, now dancing with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, puts it, “When I think of Earl Mosley's Institute of the Arts, I think of pure bliss and growth…It is an oasis of the arts, providing each student with an inner and outer strength, a limitless voice, and an unstoppable work-ethic, all with a constant feeling of community and love.”
For the past nine years, through the generosity of individual donors, foundations and grants, EMIA has been able to provide nearly 90% of our students with scholarship assistance, without which they would not be able to participate in this life-changing opportunity. Unfortunately, institutional support for the arts is dwindling, so now, as we celebrate EMIA’s Tenth Anniversary, we must look to our current and former students, our teachers and our wide world of friends, to keep Earl Mosley’s vision alive.
As Samantha Barriento, another EMIA graduate said: “Mr. Mosley gives you enough wisdom to last a lifetime.” Won’t you join us with a gift that will last a life time? Help us make EMIA’s Tenth Year a reality!
