BENEFITING: BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA
EVENT DATE: Sep 17, 2017
On September 17th, I plan to ride in the Boys and Girls Club Cyclying Challenge on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville. Since I began volunteering, I have been floored by the power and impact that the Club has on our kids in town, particularly in areas of that are often overlooked by many of us. There are 7,073 kids living in poverty within the region, mostly under the age of 12, and last year the Club served 3,121 of them. That leaves 3,952 that need to be reached. The Central Virginia Club empowers kids through it's programming every day- the 80 hard working staff members are able to provide everything from academic support, to opportunities to be exposed to the arts, life skills and healthy eating programs, to learning how to read and how to ride a bike. It's a safe place that reaches kids who need it most - and just allows them to be kids. These are children that wouldn't have a chance otherwise, and because of the amazing work of the Club, it's resources, and the dedicated staff, these kids are given that chance they deserve.
I'm aiming to raise $1,000 that will go directly to the Club in support of its programming and its people. For $35-50, we can help cover the membership dues of an extra child in need - if we reach the goal of $1,000, we could send another 20 kids to the Club. Any and all contributions, regardless of size, will go one step further in helping Central Virginia's youth in giving them a chance to thrive. I appreciate your consideration!
