To My Friends and Family:
As many of you know, during my senior year in college (1997) I was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). The only known cure for PSC is a liver transplant. For the next 11 years, I struggled with various health complications until I received the gift of life via a liver transplant almost 5 years ago on August 6, 2008. Unfortunately a lot of people are not as lucky. Every hour, a new name is added to the transplant list. Thousands of people die every year in our country because an organ is not available for transplant.
As part of my 5th Anniversary Celebration, on October 12 I will be walking the 5k route as part of the ING Hartford Marathon. I will be raising money for Donate Life Connecticut. Donate Life Connecticut is a 501 b(c)3 organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of organ and tissue donation. It is an organization that is near and dear to me. Its almost all volunteer staff has various educational outreach programs that dispel the myths surrounding organ and tissue donation. I have volunteered many hours traveling the state promoting organ and tissue and sharing my personal story to students, hospital staff and the general public at health fairs.
As the celebration of my 5th anniversary transplant approaches, I ask if you will celebrate my life with me by making a donation to Donate Life Connecticut in my honor. You will be helping me support an organization that helps me to "give back" and honor ny liver donor.
Did you know 1 organ and tissue donor can SAVE and IMPROVE the lives of over 50 people?
Donate Life Connecticut is dedicated to increasing the number of registered organ and tissue donors through outreach and education. Our organization is Volunteer driven...people that have received an organ/tissue transplant, donor families whose loved ones gave the gift of life, living donors, friends and family. We are all passionate about sharing our stories and raising awareness.
Right here in Connecticut more than 1,355 men, women and children wait for a life-saving transplant...and more than 118,000 Americans wait nationwide. Unfortunately, 18 people will die every day simply because an organ did not come in time. We want to change these statistics. More registered donors means more transplants...MORE LIVES SAVED.
THANK YOU for JOINING OUR TEAM! THANK YOU for supporting our cause!
Together we can raise awareness! Together we can save lives!
