One day, three friends decided to get together and catch up. What began as casual conversation between good friends soon morphed into a strategy on how to create a cross-country fundraiser that would provide support to multiple charities. Thus the Detroit 2 Austin charity bike ride to support Chive Charities, Coalition of Dwarf Advocacy, and Healing Vercammen Hearts was formed.
These three friends – Dane Wittig, Colin McConnell, and Tyler Wittig – will be riding their bikes over 1,600 miles from Detroit, Michigan to Austin, Texas. Their goal: raise copiously essential funds for three amazing charities, while promoting awareness of worthy issues that are quite frequently overlooked.
This benevolent crew will leave Detroit in September making stops for meet-ups, events, and celebrations along their way to Austin, while using various social media channels to bolster attention to their crusade. People following the adventure will be able to search or tag posts with the hashtag #Detroit2Austin throughout the events duration.
In an attempt to further amplify social buzz and build connections with each community they visit, the trio will document the ride through pictures and videos, and post interactive challenges for followers to take part in. Followers will also be able to make teams, and put on their own fundraisers to help raise funds for the cause.
The ride route is set to stop in Toledo, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Austin for local meet-ups, and will finally reach its finale with a flight back to Detroit where the charity crusaders will be welcomed home with a soirée thrown by their many local supporters.
