Dead Sea to Red Sea: CARE Team Going the Distance for Syrian Refugees
On March 13 -- the third anniversary of the crisis in Syria -- a CARE team of 10 will run the famous "Dead to Red" marathon in Jordan to raise awareness and funds for the plight of millions of Syrian refugees. Our team is made up of CARE staff from Jordan and Lebanon -- and Syrian refugees who volunteer in CARE's urban refugee centers.
We'll be running 150 miles (242 kilometers) from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea, starting from the Wadi Moujeb Bridge on the shores of the Dead Sea, climbing 535 meters as we wind through the Wadi Araba desert and then descend to the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
While media focus of the crisis is often on the fighting in Syria and efforts to resolve the crisis, we are hoping to bring attention to the humanitarian plight of more than 6 million people displaced inside Syria and the more than 2.5 million refugees in the region.
Help us raise awareness for the human face of the crisis and funds to support CARE's lifesaving emergency relief efforts with those caught in the crisis.
