BENEFITING: CRISTO REY NEW YORK HIGH SCHOOL
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
The School That Works: Cristo Rey New York High School (CRNYHS) offers students from low-income families an affordable, quality college-preparatory education and real-life work experience. Founded in 2004 in East Harlem, CRNYHS is part of the Cristo Rey Network of 30 schools across the United States and has grown to serve 402 students in grades 9-12 and 588 graduates. Our graduates are studying at places such as Georgetown, Amherst, Fordham, University of Virginia, Holy Cross, Brown, USC, Tufts, Providence, Bates, Williams, Cornell, and Dickinson.
Our unique Corporate Work Study Program enables students to finance 45% of their education by working one day each week in entry-level clerical positions at major corporations and community centers. This program provides four years of valuable job training and access to career options. Moreover, the habits developed in the workplace help students to succeed in college at six times the rate of their socioeconomic peers.
The average income of our families is approximately $30,079, and their average adjusted available income is ($-7,705). Our tuition – just $2,000 per year – is the lowest in New York City because our students help fund their own education. Nonetheless, 85 percent of students receive aid to help cover their tuition payments.
All funds raised through Team Cristo Rey will go directly to our school's Scholarship Fund, allowing deserving students an opportunity at a Cristo Rey education. Thank you for supporting Team Cristo Rey and Cristo Rey New York High School. Together, we are "Transforming urban America, one student at a time."
