Friends, Family, and Overall Fabulous People, Lend me your ear
I've always resonated with Ghandi's quote, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world." Obviously its impossible to change the world water crisis with one person, but hey can't hate on a girl who is trying to close the gap little by little!
I've recently been accepted to a fellowship this summer to volunteer with Community Water Solutions (CWS), a non-profit organization that partners with rural communities in Ghana to establish sustainable drinking treatment businesses. The business are owned and operated in the communities they serve, and use simple, affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution, and storage of clean, safe drinking water. The maintenance and operation of these water treatment businesses is funded by revenue from the sale of drinking water, while the capital necessary to establish them is generated from fundraising activities.
During June and July, I will be working in Northern Ghana with three other fellows where we will be responsible for implementing a CWS water businness in a new village. Every water business launched will provide a permanent source of safe drinking water for 700-1000 people in Ghana, which makes a huge difference when half of the 1.8 million residents lack access to secure sources of drinking water. To date, CWS has successfully implemented water treatment businesses in 49 communities in Ghana, providing reliable sources of clean water to over 28,000 people. 100% the water businesses that we have implemented are still in operation today. Please help my efforts to make it 50! I would like to add that every businness provides a smal income to the men and women who work there. One woman, who runs the center in Kasaligu, Ghana, was able to use her income to pay for her two youngest children to attend primary school--the first in her family.
Community Water Solutions is trying to make a difference in the global water crisis. As a fellow, I am responsible for fundraising funds that will go directly towards capital necessary for the water businnesses that my teammates and I will be establishing. I would appreciate it greatly if you would help me in this endeavor--every donation makes a difference!
