My name is Whitney Millegan, and I am pleased to join the Community Water Solutions team as a 2012 Fellow! On December 27, 2011, I will be traveling to Tamale, Ghana to help establish water treatment businesses that will provide safe, clean drinking water to villages in need.
Community Water Solutions is a not-for-profit social enterprise that partners with rural communities in developing countries to establish sustainable water treatment businesses. These businesses are owned and operated by the communities that they serve, and use simple, affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution and storage of clean, safe drinking water. The maintenance and operation of these water treatment businesses is funded by revenue from the sale of drinking water, while the capital necessary to establish them is generated from fundraising activities.
Did you Know:
- In northern Ghana, half of the 1.8 million residents lack access to improved sources of drinking water
- Due largely to this lack of safe water, 20% of children under 5 in northern Ghana are suffering from diarrheal disease.
You may be wondering, how can I help?
In order to establish the water businesses in Ghana, capital must be generated through fundraising. As a fellow, it is my responsibility to conduct a portion of the fundraising. The funds I raise will go directly towards the capital necessary for the water business my teammates and I will be establishing. My goal is to raise $2,500 by January 17, 2012. I would greatly appreciate your help in this endeavor - Every donation makes a difference!
Thank you so much! If you have any questions about the project, feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
