The St. Mary's Feast Society (Comitato Festa di Maria SS della Civita) was founded in 1905, by the faithful from the town of Itri, Italy, who settled in the Knightsville section of Cranston, RI.  The Society's purpose from its founding has been to venerate the Blessed Mother under the title of Maria Santissima Della Civita, by holding an annual feast in Her honor during the month of July.  Our annual feast typically includes the celebration of holy mass, a parade and procession, food, entertainment, and a fireworks display.

The origins of our society date back to the year 796 A.D., on Mount Civita in the town of Itri, Italy, where a deaf-mute herdsman was searching for his lost cow. The herdsman located the cow gazing up into the branches of a tree where there was a painting of the Virgin Mary holding Her son Jesus. Upon viewing the image, the herdsman was cured and gained his hearing and voice.   Since that day, the people of the town of Itri have paid homage to the Blessed Mother and subsequently began holding an annual feast in Her honor during the month of July. To this day, the Itrani people process through their town carrying the holy image of the Madonna, which is still in existence.

The St. Mary's Feast Society has held true to our roots and continues to carry on the traditions of our ancestors, and our Itrani friends and family, here in the United States.

Buona festa a tutti! Evviva Maria!!
