EVENT: Color PHor a Cure 5K
Color PHor A Cure was founded by Josh & Lindsey Belt of Jennings, Louisiana. In January of 2013, their youngest son Joel, who was three at the time, was diagnosed with severe idiopathic pulmonary hypertension (PH). PH is a rare, life threatening lung disease. Since there was NO CAUSE found for why Joel has PH, that also means there is still NO CURE. Joel is currently on a 24/7 IV medication that is infused directly into his heart as well as taking half a dozen other oral medications. Unfortunately, at this time no PH medication given to children is approved.

During the summer of 2013, doctors told Josh and Lindsey that Joel only had 6 months to a year left to live. In response to the devastating news, Josh and Lindsey knew they couldn’t sit back and watch their son die. So with the support of hundreds of friends and family they hosted their first ever 5K called "Color PHor A Cure”. In absolute amazement, over 2,300 people from over 72 cities rallied behind the Belt family and participated in the run, along with an additional 300 volunteers. Color PHor A Cure 2013 raised over $130,000. The best part was 100% of all the proceeds went to help raise awareness and research for PHA’s Dr. Robyn J. Barst Pediatric Research and Mentoring Fund for Pulmonary Hypertension. This is the only pediatric PH research fund in all of the United States.
Now, it’s time to do it again! Color PHor A Cure 2014, is just around the corner and it’s going to be bigger, better and even brighter! Saturday, October 11, 2014 we will make history yet again. This is where you can help! Joel and many other kids fighting PH need your help in raising funds to find a cure in their lifetime. Our goal is to raise $200,000, which would make this the largest PH 5k fundraiser in the nation…so every dollar helps! Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate and help us find a cure for this devastating disease!
