BENEFITING: COLON CANCER CHALLENGE FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: COLON CANCER CHALLENGE FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Family & Friends,
I've decided to put my running into help fight against colorectal cancer. I will be making my miles count on November 6, 2016 with participating in the TCS New York City Marathon. Not only will I be training like crazy for for my run, but more importantly, I'm going to leverage all that training & hard work to help raise money for the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation & the fight against colorectal cancer. Funds raised will go to life saving public awareness, prevention, screening & research programs aimed all focused on reducing the number of loved ones we lose to this preventable, treatable & beatable disease.
Colon cancer has affected our family tremendously. My brother Russell passed away in 2001 at the age of 37. I deeply miss my big brother & there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him. My mother-in-law Margaret passed away in 1996 at the age of 53. We miss hearing her laugh & seeing her beautiful smile. With early detection and screening it could have saved both of their lives. The loss of my grandmother & uncles and other family members has fueled me to be passionate for this charity & I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to support this foundation at the New York City Marathon. I'll be running in memory of my big brother Russell.
I'm reaching out to everyone I know to help me raise $3000.00 for this cause. Please give what you can. It'll take you about ten seconds. Any amount would be greatly appreciated & together we will reach the goal & the finish line. Here are some quick facts about my cause...
More than an estimated 51,000 Americans died from colon cancer this past year. By joining Team Colon Cancer Challenge I'm joining the fight against colorectal cancer and helping spread the word that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable, and beatable with early screening.
The Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation launched Team Colon Cancer Challenge in 2010 to:
Encourage colorectal cancer survivors to incorporate exercise into their everyday lives as a way to significantly reduce the rate of recurrence. Provide a grassroots opportunity for colorectal cancer survivors and their family members to raise awareness and funds for colorectal cancer in their community. Offer those who have lost a loved one to colorectal cancer a positive and effective channel for their rallying cry against colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in women & men in the US. Over 150,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year & sadly more than 1/3 will lose their battle with this often silent killer. There is hope however, over 60% of cases could be prevented with screening. And, more than 30% of cases could be eliminated by incorporating a healthy diet & exercise!
Thank you so much for your encouragement and support.
