BENEFITING: Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech
ORGANIZER: Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
I am running this year's ING New York City Marathon in honor of my daughter Alyssa and to support Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech.
Alyssa failed her newborn screening and was diagnosed as profoundly deaf when she was 7 weeks old. Since that time she has been receiving services from the Clarke School. She received her first cochlear implant when she was 18 months old and her second 3 months later. Thanks to this technology and the amazing services provided by the Clarke School, Alyssa is able to hear and speak. She hears us when we talk to her, she hears the birds chirping, the rain falling and airplanes flying overhead. She sings songs to us, dances and enjoys music. Every day we are amazed by the technology of her cochlear implants and by her progress.
I am running this marathon to raise money for the school that has supported Alyssa and our family since she was just 7 weeks old. Their services and support were and are instrumental in Alyssa's success! I hope that you will partner with me in this campaign!
