BENEFITING: Children's Orchestra Society, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2015
The Children's Orchestra Society (COS), founded in 1962 by Dr. H.T. Ma, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to "teaching the language of music" to children and teens. Our mission is to cultivate and nurture children and teach them teamwork and life skills through music-learning and performing in orchestral and chamber music settings, using a child-centered approach. COS members receive excellent training in classical music and opportunities to perform in concerts with their peers as well as with well-established musicians, and reach out to the community to play concerts benefiting victims of natural disasters. COS alumni go on to prestigious colleges and universities, and many of them continue to play. Notable alumni include Caroline Kennedy, Yo-Yo Ma, Tony Rudel, Shira Stern, Astrid Schween.
