BENEFITING: The Childrens Scholarship Fund
ORGANIZER: The Childrens Scholarship Fund
EVENT: NYC Half 2014
EVENT DATE: Mar 16, 2014
It's a [half] marathon, not a sprint. . .Slow and steady wins the race, right!?!?
On March 16th, I will be running my second half marathon. My first was a few years ago in Myrtle Beach, SC to celebrate a good friend's 30th birthday. I didn't train for it - oops! This half, I'm actually training and I couldn't be more excited to run 13.1 miles (no sarcasm I promise). The run starts with a loop of Central Park (hills and all), goes through Times Square, down the West Side and ends downtown at South Street Seaport. Lovely little Sunday stroll if I do say so myself. So hopefully, by race day, I'll be ready for 13.1 miles (as well as a giant post-run Guinness to celebrate the finish).
My real motivation is that I'm running to raise money for the Children's Scholarship Fund (CSF), an organization that has become near and dear to my heart. Founded in 1998, CSF provides scholarships to low-income families so their children can attend the K-8 schools that best match their needs, regardless of where they live. Key to its success is strong family involvement, which is rooted in the financial contribution required of all families. Specifically, all families are required to pay a minimum of $500 towards tuition each year, ensuring they are fully invested and empowered in their children’s education. This school year, CSF is funding scholarships for 27,650 low-income children across the country, including almost 8,300 in New York City. To learn more, please visit www.scholarshipfund.org.
Thank you SO much and please know that any and every donation is greatly appreciated. Also, I would love to see some smiling familiar faces on race day, so please come and cheer me along! I will post the race route as soon as I have it.
