EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
In 2014 when I first told my friends and family that I was running the marathon they looked at me like I was crazy, so you can imagine their reaction when I told them I was running again—VERY excited for the after party.
But in all seriousness, it is not the crowds on the street of New York or the cool medal you get at the end that motivated me to run again. The positive impact Catholic Charities of New York has on over 350,000 Catholic and non-Catholic New Yorkers every year is incredible, and being able to contribute to that is my main motivator.
Re-entering my runner’s routine, affectionately referred to as the “old person lifestyle”, has been a little tricky. However, it is much easier to get out of bed at 5am when I think of the women who will be able to receive job training and skills so they can provide for their families, and likewise passing up that happy hour is a little easier when I think of all of the New Yorkers I can help stay warm next winter by providing them with coats and other essentials.
I feel truly lucky to participate in one of the biggest New York events for such a great New York charity, and can’t wait to hit the ground running.
