EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2013
It is a parent’s worst nightmare. Back in November 2008 my wife Tina called me from the Connecticut Children’s Hospital. I was traveling to Boston for work and my wife took Gabriella to have an MRI done on her spine because she had back and leg pain. My wife said, “We are at the Children’s Hospital and the doctor was us to meet him as soon as possible, like now.” I could sense the fear in her voice. Quickly, I rented a car in Boston and sped to the Children’s Hospital. Parked the car and ran into the doctor’s office. Right away, I could see the outline of my daughter’s back on the screen hung on the wall. I didn’t need the doctor to tell me that the long, thick mass in the middle of her spinal column didn’t belong there. He told us that our daughter has cancer.
Three recurrences of the cancer, three spinal surgeries and two bouts of radiation treatments later, our daughter is currently enjoying remission from her cancer. Gabriella’s courage, strength, and patience has been remarkable, even awe inspiring. The doctors, nurses, administrators, and staff at the Children’s Hospital have been incredible, and very comforting to our family. Gabriella, now 15, enjoys volunteering her time during the summer at CCMC. She creates arts and craft activities for children waiting for their doctor’s appointment. She settles the nerves of many kids because Gabriella can tell them, in total confidence, that everyone at CCMC is very nice and will make them feel better.
Our relationship with CCMC started five years ago and continues to this day (we were actually there today for a follow up visit). During our visits we see hundreds of parents and children going to their appointments. We often wonder how they keep providing such wonderful care. Well, in order to continue to provide top-notch care to the children of Connecticut, they need our help. Please click the Donate button below. Every dollar goes directly to the hospital.
Thank you very much.
