Our trials, sorrows and our grieves develop us.
- Orison Swett Marden
I run for everyone touched by a grief that I cannot imagine. I am the mother of two girls and the wife of a very patient man.
I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to run on behalf of the Children's Room. I cannot begin to imagine the grief of losing a child or spouse. Like most mothers, I felt a strong protective bond when my children were born. A fear of separation has always lingered in the back of my mind. Because of this, I try to impart my limited wisdom whenever I can to my girls. This often produces a lot of eye-rolling. I usually persist knowing that I am blessed to have any moment to teach or inspire. Running the Boston Marathon 2014 is a moment to inspire.
I am honored to run in the memory of Amy Miller. Amy was a wife to Brad and mother to Eliza (11) and Kira (8). An athlete and runner, Amy ran annually in long relay races. I met Amy and Brad six years ago when Eliza and Ellie were classmates in kindergarten. The girls shared a mutual appreciation of all things silly. After being diagnosed with paragangloma, a rare cancer, Amy passed away in February of 2013 at the age of 45.
The Children's Room provides support to Brad, Eliza and Kira and other grieving families free of charge. The organization also reaches out to schools to inform teachers, PTOs and counselors on how to help students who have lost a loved one.
Your donation will allow families already burdened to receive support free of charge. Please, please consider making a donation to this incredible organization.
Come cheer on the Children's Room 2014 Miles & Memories Team on Monday, April 21, 2014!
