THE STORY:

CDI International, Inc. wrote -

Brazil is hosting the World Cup in 2014, followed by the Olympic Games in 2016 … yet more than 50% of the country’s population only makes less than US$10 a day. Shocking?

Lack of investment in health, education and transportation has hampered Brazil’s trajectory, as much as corruption and crime have held back progress.

What can be done to improve the living conditions of over 100 million Brazilians? At CDI, we focus on the people who need and seek our help. Since 1995, we have positively affected some 1.54 million lives; however, we still have a lot to do!

How are helping people? We believe that access to education technology combined with our approach to teaching can significantly change people’s lives.  But to leverage even greater impact: WE NEED YOU!

With US$10,00 you could provide a two-week short course in Citizenship and ICT (information and communications technology) for a child from a low-income community.

Donating US$50,00 you could pay for a complete Citizenship and ICT course for this child.

Could you help more?  Great! With US$500 you could support a whole classroom of children learning about Citizenship and ICT, while a donation of US$10,000 would enable us to maintain a center running for a year, providing courses for over 200 students.

ABOUT CDI

Pioneer of the digital inclusion movement in Latin America, CDI has been working since 1995. Our innovative operating model and proven robust methodology has been applied and replicated worldwide. Today, CDI has 780 digital inclusion spaces, and a presence in 13 countries.

CDI has received many awards over the past 18 years, namely from UNESCO, UNICEF, CNN, Time Magazine, World Economic Forum, Clinton Global Initiative and many others.

OUR WORK

Digital Inclusion

We use knowledge to stimulate local economic development and job creation.

Technology is one of the most powerful catalysts of change at hand today. But technology, in itself, is just a tool.

The true challenge is making technology relevant and useful in the context of marginalized populations. For 18 years, we have empowered disadvantaged groups to use ICT as a tool to exercise their full capacities as citizens, and tackle the issues that affect their communities.

CDI Community Centers are technology and learning centers in impoverished communities. Each CDI Community Center is a partnership with an existing leading grassroots organization. The community-based organizations provide the infrastructure and CDI provides free computers and software, while we also implement educational methods, train instructors and monitor the centers.

BENEFICIARIES

CDI Community Centers are rooted in Latin America's most vulnerable regions – from the sprawling urban slums of Rio to the refugee camps in Bogota, as well as in indigenous communities, prisons, juvenile delinquency centers, psychiatric institutions and hospitals for the physically disabled.
