As Ocean County’s only Emergency Safe House, Providence House needs to insure its safehouse residents are protected from violence in the home. But safehouse residents ought to also be protected from natural disasters while being sheltered. When Hurricane Sandy knocked out power to the region, our generator proved inadequate.
No one should have to spend days in darkness, especially children who have fled violence in their own home. We need your help to purchase and install a hard-wired power generator to protect residents of our safehouse. Ocean County is at particular risk for power outages since many coastal storms make landfall in our area, downing trees and wires.
A generator would insure that children would be warm at night and that moms would not have an additional worry during an already chaotic time. We at Providence House are here to help lift children and women up, but we need your help to keep residents safe and protected.
Providence House Domestic Violence Services provides the ONLY safe, confidential emergency shelter in Ocean County for victims of domestic abuse, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and assistance in housing information, referral, and advocacy to help victims on the journey from victim to survivor, self-depreciation to self-sufficiency, and homelessness to housed.
