The Story

EVENT DATE: Sep 17, 2016

While most of us were excited when we approached high school graduation and looked to the future full of possibility, young people with disabilities “age out of the system” and suddenly find themselves without the support, programming, and services they received during their school years.

BUDDY WALK® at the BEACH: September 17, 2016

This year’s 12th annual Buddy Walk at the Beach will continue to support Sammy’s Place’s efforts to establish a much needed living and working community for adults with special needs. The walk will continue to promote awareness of people with special needs and Sammy’s Place vision.

We have set our fundraising goal at $15,000 this year.  Most of those resources will be saved for land procurement.  About $5,000 will be used to fund the start-up expenses for our first nature-based program coming in 2017 and to help us build our capacity.

The 2015 Buddy Walk at the Beach raised over $38,000 from nearly 500 supporters such as you. Thank You!  Most of the funds have been saved for land procurement. About 1/3 of the money is judiciously being used to develop the necessary strategic plans to make this vision viable.

There is still much work to be done, awareness to be shared, and celebrations to have. Your 2016 Buddy Walk at the Beach donation and/or registration will continue to support our efforts over the next year to move forward and produce the first Sammy’s Place nature-based programs for adults with special needs.

Join us at this year’s Buddy Walk at the Beach and on this journey. Your support is appreciated and instrumental to our vision.

SAMMY’S PLACE – Oregon 501 (c) (3)

Imagine an inclusive community, with rural acreage, gardens and paths, animals, a main lodge, independent and assisted living and opportunities to work, learn, and grow throughout adulthood.

We are working towards this great vision and are currently preparing to offer our first nature-based program for adults with special needs starting in 2017.

The Board of Directors seeks volunteers, board members, financial contributions, and Buddy Walkers to help keep this vision alive.  We are specifically seeking volunteers to help with fundraising, research, and marketing.
