It's not easy being a military child today. And it's no secret that our children, having endured deployments, moves, culture shock, and multiple schools are in need of support.  And sometimes that helping hand comes from doing good for others, connecting with others, and supporting each other.  Because of the unique challenges Military kids endure we created the MilKidz Club and our Books on Bases program!

Over two million children have sent a parent to war in past years and Blue Star Families has learned through our military family lifestyle survey that parents are most worried about the effects of deployment and the effects of the military lifestyle on education.  It's these revelations that have prompted the creation of MilKidz Club. MilKidz Club is like a wingman for every single military child. MilKidz Club is all about cool events, free tickets, and tons of other happenings that all show our military children some well-deserved appreciation. Learn more about Milkidz Club.

Books on Bases was created by Blue Star Families to positively impact the lives of military children through the power of reading.

One of the best ways to promote literacy in children is to read to and with children, as often as possible. A book is a toolbox for a child, teaching them societal, cultural and historical information in relatable ways. A book also offers opportunity for escapism, stress-life, self-expression and dialogue over thoughtful matters that may otherwise be difficult.

The Books on Bases program offers reading material to military children via donations to local and base libraries, Department of Defense schools and military-impacted public schools. With generous contributions from corporate and nonprofit partners, Blue Star Families holds donation drives and read-along sessions for children to enjoy, connect with other children and experience the warmth of caring adults. Blue Star Museums first launched in the summer of 2010 as a way for museums to offer their appreciation to military families and enable them to enjoy the nation's cultural heritage. Currently, there are more than one million active duty military in the United States, and an estimated 900,000 children whose parents have served in multiple deployments. Blue Star Museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa took part in the initiative, including 627 new museums this year. This year more than 2000 museums are participating, that is  more than triple the 600 museums that launched Blue Star Museums in the summer of 2010.

Blue Star Museums offers FREE entrance to more than 2000 museums for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Learn more about Blue Star Museums.
