BasicNeeds: taking action on global mental health - with your support
In 2013, of the 42,469 people with mental illness or epilepsy who participated in BasicNeeds programmes worldwide, a significant number showed improvements in health with reduced symptoms and increased participation in domestic, social and economic activities.
We’re a small organisation with a proven, high impact track record – we have the data, if you’d like to know more! We’re winning international awards for our approach, but it’s a constant challenge to ensure we have the funds we need to do our work.
BasicNeeds is the only UK based international non-profit organisation, and one of the few in the world, that works specifically to make change on the issue of mental illness and epilepsy in developing countries.
Our approach to mental health care and treatment is holistic and innovative, going beyond purely medical interventions to take into account social and economic factors for long-term recovery.
Help us give more people with mental illness the chance of a better future.
A donation of $50 can fund a comprehensive mental health care and income generating project for an affected individual for a month.
$300 will help us to pay for a psychiatrist to travel to rural areas to diagnose and treat affected persons.
Together we can ensure that the basic needs of people with mental illness living in poverty are met. We can give them the chance to thrive within the families and communities they live in.
