BENEFITING: Foster Care Alumni Of America
EVENT DATE: Jun 16, 2018
In the U.S., about 400,000 children live in foster care, entering care due to abuse and neglect or after losing their parents through death or incarceration. Many of us leave care without a strong community and still experience the effects of child abuse and trauma well into adulthood.
As the leading national organization for an estimated 12 million foster care alumni, Foster Care Alumni of America is urging those who care about this important issue to get involved by joining our efforts to build a strong community for foster youth and alumni. We envision all people in and from foster care connected, empowered and flourishing.
Foster Care Alumni of America brings that vision to life by promoting healing and growth through peer support and empowerment. Alumni are encouraged to advocate for equal opportunities for people in and from foster care. Through advocacy efforts, we educate policy-makers on the challenges facing people in and from foster care and offer recommendations to help foster youth and alumni succeed.
Community members are invited to join our FosterWalk events to learn more. Funds raised from the FosterWalk events helps support personal and professional growth for foster care alumni, empowering them through peer support, leadership development and advocacy efforts.
