From STEM outreach to students and educators, as well as professional development and training for the existing and transitioning workforce, Biocom Institute’s vision is for our community of local life science professionals to share and amplify knowledge as engaged citizens, contributing to the current and future success of our industry.
In addition to our K-12 STEM initiatives, including the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, our focus is on creating innovative developmental programs to expose the community to sustainable careers in life science. One of our main initiatives is to provide educational and experiential pathways for veterans transitioning into civilian careers. The San Diego region is a top life science hub in the nation and although it is one of the top destinations for service members exiting the military, veterans are part of the community underrepresented in our workforce. Along with our Veteran Initiatives Committee and Veteran Mentorship Program, ‘Fatigues to Lab Coats’ will provide San Diego area veterans with theoretical, practical, and analytical experience, equipping them with the skills companies require to successfully transition into a science job within life science industry.
