April 24, 2016
Two years ago, I ran my first Boston marathon in honor of the survivors of the 2013 attacks whom I was priviledged to treat. For me, the experience proved transformative. I joined 30,000 runners united in remembering an event that forever changed our city. The sense of community and shared purpose was palpable.
Today, I am returning to the Boston marathon with the same conviction but renewed perspective. Orthopaedic surgery is “the specialty of second chances” - I want to run for all our patients with disabling musculoskeltal conditions who depend on our surgical skills to return to function. I want to run for those awaiting cutting edge scientific discoveries to overcome sidelining injuries. I want to run for those who confront unforeseen challenges, never give up and inspire us to work toward better solutions to complex medical problems.
Thank you in advance for your encouragement and support of BIDMC.
