Asilweni is the only anti trafficking charity that works across borders in Africa. The charity specialises in both stopping the trafficking of women and children for slavery and prostitution as well as repatriating rescued victims and rehabilitating them to their communities. The charity receives no government funding.
Asilweni rescues girls and boys as young as eleven or twelve that have been abducted and trafficked in sub equatorial africa and works specifically in South Africa. The victims are voiceless and often their families are iliterate ot too impoverished to be able to do anything to help them.
Victims can be black, white, mixed race and are both male and female. many are too frightened to seek help as those that do have been murdered as an example to others.
Asilweni has managed to secure several Safe Houses in South Africas different provinces, as well as Zimbabwe and Zambia.
However Asilweni, receives no pubic assistance. The charity is run by women for women and children.
Prostitutes are marginalised, but many just walk past them in the street not even realising they are not there voluntarily. Many do not even have the resources to obtain sanitary protection, have no warn clothing and sleep on the streets under the watchful eye of violent pimps.
Asilweni rescues these women and children, feeds, clothes and heals them in rescue centres far from their place of rescue, finally rehabilitating them back into their home communities.
Currently Asilweni needs funds for basics such as food, clothing, medical treatment and accomodating these people during rehab.
Many of these children and young women are not even being searched for. Their families have just given up hope and assumed they are dead.
$10 will feed, clothe and provide a bed for a trafficked child for one week. You can make a difference with $10
