Jim Thelen

I'm so honored to be part of Team Red Cross 2015!  I hope you will consider supporting the Red Cross's vital work so that you can be part of my journey to reach the finish line of the world's most historic race next April.

I have both personal and professional connections to the Red Cross.  Professionally, I served on my Lansing, MI chapter's Human Resources committee and provided legal advice as needed.  Personally, as a genealogy buff, I was humbled to discover that my wife's great-great-grandparents were among the beneficiaries of the Red Cross's very first disaster response in 1881, after a devastating forest fire ravaged the Michigan communities around which they lived.

And I can't think of a better way to support the Red Cross than to join my wife, a three-times Boston finisher, and other running friends to train for, run, and finish the 119th Boston Marathon.  We were there near the finish line on the Marathon's darkest day in 2013, and we were blessed to be there for the 2014 race's joyful return to normalcy.

It'll be a great privilege to be there next April with Team Red Cross 2015, and I'm glad you'll be along for my journey!

Team Red Cross is honored to be an official charity team of the 119th B.A.A. Boston Marathon®

On April 20, 2015, more than 50 Team Red Cross members will run the historic 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston in support of the American Red Cross mission!

With every mile run and every dollar raised, Team Red Cross runners help to save and transform the lives of people in their greatest time of need. And together, we will finish the race Boston Strong.

Funds raised by Team Red Cross benefit American Red Cross programs and services across Massachusetts. Since 2012, 94 Team Red Cross runners have raised more than $560,000 to support Red Cross programs and services. Runners of all ages and abilities proudly represent the American Red Cross at the Boston Marathon, from first time marathoners to experienced competitors.

The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers, and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering here at home and around the world through five key service areas: disaster relief, supporting America’s military families, supplying lifesaving blood, health and safety services, and international services.

The American Red Cross of Massachusetts is one of the largest Red Cross chapters in the nation. We stand ready to assist the citizens of our Commonwealth in times of disaster to meet emergency needs; to alleviate hunger; to make ours a more resilient Massachusetts; and to educate our next generation in preparedness, health, safety and aquatics.

Team Red Cross is proud to partner with Dan Fitzgerald, Heartbreak Hill Running Company and South End Athletic Company to provide expert coaching and training for Team Red Cross runners.
