BENEFITING: American Red Cross
ORGANIZER: American Red Cross Massachusetts Region
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
I am training for Boston 2016 and raising funds for the official Boston Marathon charity Team Red Cross in memory of my Dad, Philip Bianchi, who passed away Marathon Monday 2015, and in Honor of My Grandmother, Heather Ratcliff, who worked for the Red Cross Cambridge chapter for many years.
My Grandmother, encouraged me to become a CPR and Swim instructor early and I saw firsthand how important and far reaching the work of the Red Cross is for communities in need. I remember watching her 8 millimeter films of the work during Hurricane Camille as a small child and I knew then that what she was doing made an impact on the people she helped. Later she was a voice for CPR and started teaching CPR to the blind and taught many local fire and emergency teams.
On April 18, 2016, I, along with my Team Red Cross friends, will run the historic 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston in support of the American Red Cross mission.
With every mile run and every dollar raised, Team Red Cross runners help to save and transform the lives of people in their greatest time of need. Together, we are the American Red Cross. And together, we will finish the race Boston Strong!
The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. Our network of generous donors, volunteers, and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering here at home and around the world through five key service areas: disaster relief, service to the Armed Forces, lifesaving blood and blood products, health and safety training, and international services.
The American Red Cross of Massachusetts serves 351 cities and towns across the Commonwealth with a population of over 6.6 million people. Since 2012, Team Red Cross runners have raised more than $880,000 in support of Red Cross programs and services in Massachusetts and beyond.
Team Red Cross is proud to partner with Dan Fitzgerald and Heartbreak Hill Running Company to provide expert coaching and training for Team Red Cross runners.
