I am raising money for my sorority's local philanthropy, Chelsea's Light Foundation, before their biggest event, Finish Chelsea's Run 5k.
Chelsea's Light Foundation was established as my sorority's local philanthropy on January 13th, 2016. I was Director of Philanthropy during that time and my main goal as the position holder was to give back to Los Angeles and surrounding communities that I've grown to know as my home since moving to LA from Northern California in 2014 and to give back to my chapter by establishing a local philanthropy for the first time in our chapter's 23 year history. The stories I heard about Chelsea and the overall mission of the foundation really resonated with me.
Though this is my second time attending the event, this is my first time I will be running the whole length of the race and receiving an official time.
I've been training to run a 5k since June, I initially was using running as a way to train for my study abroad trip to Japan to keep up with the kinesiology students I went with but as my endurance and mile times improved, I wanted to keep running to be able to fully honor the meaning behind the event by "finishing Chelsea's run". Additionally, I wanted to use my goal of running the whole and my first 5k to also raise a more significant amount of money to fully show my support for the Chelsea's Light Foundation.
If you're interested in participating in Finish Chelsea's Run 5k on March 4th, 2017 either in-person or virtually (all the race perks but no race), feel free to sign-up! You can sign up on your own or with my sorority's team, Alpha Sigma Tau LA. Contact me directly for the team access code to be added officially. https://chelseaslight.org/registration/
Regardless if you donate or not, thank you for taking the time to read more about my fundraising mission.
