AdoptWalk 2016: Extreme Obstacle Edition is the Adoption Council of Canada’s major fundraiser taking place on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the OCR Academy in Ottawa.
The event will consist of competitive team relays for elite athletes and first responders, family obstacle course races and a BBQ for foster and adoptive families. Many of those families will be celebrating the finalization of their adoptions through the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa.
Why Support us and Adoptwalk 2016?
AdoptWalk brings together adoptive families, adoptees, birth families and members of the general public, to raise awareness of the need for permanent families for all children and youth. Currently, there are about 30,000 children living in provincial/territorial care, available for adoption, legal guardianship, kinship care or customary care – more than 7,000 Crown wards in Ontario alone.
All funds raised by our awesome teams and families will support our ability to help families navigate the domestic and international adoption system, provide post-adoption support, and improve outcomes for Canada’s Waiting Children.
If you care about children and youth in the child welfare system, and those in need of homes internationally, please consider supporting the Adoption Council of Canada's work. Without permanent families, the children in care of our provincial/territorial foster care system will age out of that system without the support, connections and advocates all of us need. Many will go on to homelessness, incarceration or poverty. Some take their own lives.
