On/around 8 January our South Sound Equipment trailer was broken into. Thieves stole two racing chairs, one of which is our prized 'Big Pink'. An Adaptive Star Axiom racing chair, donated by the Fort Lewis Thrift Shop in 2016. Big Pink has rolled literally hundreds of miles bringing joy to both adaptive and able bodied athlete alike. The Axiom is well known for it's smooth ride, easy racing and the best part is that it accomodates our adult athletes more comfortably than our standard Advanced Mobility Freedom Chairs. The cherry on top of the Axiom is that it is a conversion racer, pop the front wheel off, attach the bike boom and voila! She is ready to take on a triathlon! A single Axiom starts at $3,500. Additionally, the thieves also took a Freedom Racing chair. Sponsorships for a Freedom chair go for $1000. We are sad, to say the least, and looking to raise funds to replace our equipment.
