BENEFITING: 50 LEGS IN 50 DAYS INC
ORGANIZER: 50 LEGS IN 50 DAYS INC
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
Well it is official. After promising my family no more marathons, I am running the Boston Marathon on April 18th. I am still a little bit in shock but after 2 successful long runs over the past two weeks, I know I have this. I have this amazing opportunity to run Boston legit (as we all know I am way too slow to qualify) in support of an AMAZING and truly INSPIRING organization named 50 Legs (www.50legs.org). I am honored to be part of its team. In return, I have promised to raise at least $5,000 so 50 Legs can continue strongly doing what it has been doing. I appreciate in advance any financial support you may provide.
The purpose of 50 Legs is to help amputees with the necessary care and prosthetics that they could not otherwise afford, to help them live a happier and healthier life, to advocate for amputee's needs for proper prosthetics and foster public education and awareness. 50 Legs was one of the first to help and support victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. When I learned about 50 Legs, I could not think of a greater organization to run Boston for given what it did for Boston in such a critical time.
Ever since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, I have been determined to run Boston again. It has been 16 years since my last Boston Marathon which I ran with Dan. I did not have a race good day and swore to never run that one again! But since that awful April day in 2013, I wanted back at it and cross that finish line on Bolyston St. one more time. It turns out many others felt the same way. Gaining entry via a charitable organization has become more difficult than getting into an Ivy League college! There are simply not enough numbers to go around to meet demand. So when my dear friend from the Loon Race Team, Stacey Browne, called me asking me if I want a number, I hesitated for a second and then said, "Yes!"
Check out www.50legs.org to see how truly amazing this organization is.
Thank you in advance. I cannot WAIT to cross that finish line!
