500 miles for immigrants' Rights was envisioned during a morning run by Maria Isabel Perez and Nohelia Patel as a scholarship fund for college-bound high school aged runners. The scholarship money will be raised through sponsorship of individuals committed to running 500 miles over a span of nine months.
As first generation runners and immigrants raised in San Diego this fundraiser is our contribution to the next generation of scholar athletes. Access to a four-year university creates opportunities for both economic mobility as well as exposure to world-class competition. Therefore the "500 miles for immigrants rights" scholarship is for college tuition only and will be awarded in May 2014. The selection process for the scholarship receipients will be announced by early Spring 2014.
We invite our community to join us in running 500 miles or/and donate to this cause.
