4 year old boy who needs operation for a Brain Tumor
Organized by: Neesha Camille
I met a boy & his father while on vacation in Jamaica last month, travelling on a local bus heading from Montego Bay to Kingston. If you have ever experienced a local bus in Jamaica well this ride was no different! The father was sitting right next to me with his 4 year old son, which at first glance appears to be very quiet and maybe even shy. At one point when we were shifting everyone around to get the bus to squeeze and fit everyone on this bus (in true Jamaican fashion) I had to lift his son and hold him. While all this was happening The boy had zero emotion, he just went with the flow and while sitting on my lap he looked and felt quite comfortable. Therefore I looked at his father next to me who was settling in with his bags and other items, on the "make shift" aisle seat which doesn't have a back , and told him not the worry I can hold his son on the ride to Kingston. It was an easy ride, however the whole time I kept thinking is this child okay? He hasn't said one word, he feels so lifeless in my lap, his dad kept telling him to eat something but he wouldn't respond. His dad put small piece of food into his mouth but the boy just let it sit there until it dissolved. Is this just a 4 year old being a 4 year old? Or is this something deeper than that. During the 3.5 hour ride to Kingston I noticed the medical band on his wrist, it was blue and very basic , just the name and age- not like how they are here in Canada. I asked the father about it and he explains that they came from Kingston the day before to spend Christmas with some family but by the evening his son fell ill so they spent the night in the hospital. The doctors ran some tests and now he's making his way back home where his son will be in a more comfortable setting. I've kept in touch with the father since this trip and he has sadly informed me that the doctors have determined his son has a brain tumor. And they need to operate as soon as possible ! Now Shawn being a hard working single father he works day and night to provide for his son, and even has a decent job as a chef. However in the time frame of when this operation is scheduled and needs to be done he's asking for help from anyone in the smallest amount of form you can provide to help his son get this operation that he needs.
