The Story

EVENT DATE: Apr 14, 2016

The Literacy Council of Buncombe County's 25th annual Spelling Bee will be held April 14, 2016 at The Millroom in downtown Asheville. The event is from 6:00 - 9:00. Fifteen teams of three adults each will compete in the most spirited and outrageous word challenge of their lives! This isn’t your average spelling bee. Returning this year as Emcee is David Ostergaard, who will preside over a themed event featuring surprise entertainment! Teams must have both spelling and concentration skills in order to disregard the pandemonium caused by a costumed, cheering audience! But the uproariouos atmosphere will not compromise the difficulty of the wordlist. This event is for logophiles with a sense of humor.

Literacy changes lives. The impact improves the quality of our workforce, the strength of our local economy and the resilience of our community.

Funds raised during our 25th Annual Spelling Bee will go to support the Literacy Council programming which meets literacy needs for people of all ages in Buncombe County. We serve students in four core programs: Adult Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), the Augustine Project®, and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
