THE STORY:

It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things - Coco Chanel

I have been offered a rare opportunity to accomplish something exraordinary - a chance to race in the Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii in October of 2017 AND to give back to the Ironman Foundation at the same time.

The funds raised go to so many worthy causes around the world and I thank you for your continued support of this amazing Foundation that gives back to so many communities.  I also thank you for believing in and helping me accomplish my dreams.

KOKUA is a Hawaiian word that translates to extending help to others. Each year, IRONMAN events take over entire towns which can practically shut down a community during race week. IRONMAN events close down 100+ miles of road, block traffic, and bring in thousands of spectators, athletes, and staff. Yes, this is a great economic boost to the local eateries and hotels BUT the guy living on mile 60 of the bike course doesn’t care about that. All he knows is the tri teams training up and down his road throughout the year for race preparation. All he knows is that he can’t leave his house on race day thanks to all of the athletes racing by. No he doesn’t care about the tourism boost but he may care about a $10,000 donation from The IRONMAN Foundation granted to his local Boys & Girls Club where he’s been a volunteer for the past 10 years. As IRONMAN Foundation Athletes, we care about that guy and are passionate about lifting up the community behind the course through the spirit of KOKUA.

The IRONMAN Foundation was established in 2003 as a way to provide grant funding opportunities to local nonprofit groups/community initiatives that are within our IRONMAN race communities. Since inception, The IRONMAN Foundation has facilitated over $32 MILLION in charitable giveback to local, national, and global nonprofit initiatives. In true KOKUA spirit, IRONMAN Foundation athletes take on the role of “goodwill ambassador” for the sport of triathlon by creating lasting relationships between the IRONMAN event and the communities that support them. Your donation support is so important because, with your help, we can make a big difference in smaller organizations that are working hand in hand with actual people in real communities. Mahalo for your KOKUA. Aloha!
