Ride for the Living is an annual fundraising event under the patronage of Chief Rabbi of Poland, Michael Schudrich. The 55-mile bicycle ride from Auschwitz to JCC Krakow is a trip to not only remember Jewish history, but to celebrate and support the miraculous rebirth of Jewish life in Poland today. The 2016 Ride for the Living will take place on June 3, 2016.
Ride for the Living was inspired by JCC Krakow member, Robert Desmond, who rode his bicycle 1,350 miles from London to Auschwitz visiting WWII sites of liberation along his journey. After joining the JCC and becoming an active member, he realized his ride shouldn't have ended in a place of loss, but rather have members of Krakow’s Jewish community and friends from around the world join him by finishing in a place of hope - JCC Krakow.
At a young age my dad opened my eyes to the world and through his generosity and acts of kindness, he taught me that we cannot take for granted what we have and we must give back to those in need.
As a JDC Jewish Service Corp. Fellow, I have dedicated my year to serving the Jewish community of Krakow. Since moving to Krakow in September 2015, I have quickly come to realize how special this community is. Our community was created from courage. Whether a member is a survivor or a young adult who is discovering their Jewish identity, each and every one of them chose to be a part of Judaism and took a step into our community. The members of the JCC are an inspriation to me everyday. Support from this Ride helps create an environment where our members can continue to discover, learn, and be a part of Jewish life.
Please support my dad and me in helping build the Jewish community of Krakow.
