Actually 146 feet. (The other 19 feet are like a bonus room in the sky.)
HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE ME?
About 10 minutes. After the first, you’ll be shouting in sheer exhilaration, we promise.
AM I OLD ENOUGH? TOO OLD? TOO SMALL? TOO BIG?
The recommended minimum age to rappel with Over The Edge is 18, but the critical factor is whether you can fit into the harness. And fit you will if you weigh at least 100 but not more than 300 pounds. So if you’re 15 or 16 and 120 pounds, we can make this work. (And your parents will sign the waiver instead of you.) And you’re never too old because we all know age is little more than a state of mind.
WILL I BE ALONE?
Is anyone really ever? You will not be! There will be two ropes stations, so two rappellers on the façade throughout the eight-hour day, plus a host of experts seeing to your safety!
CAN I CHOOSE A PARTNER?
That depends. It’s tough to guarantee because of timing, but we’ll offer the opportunity to our top fundraising duos. If you each raise $2,000, we’ll make sure you descend together.
CAN I PRACTICE?
Of course. On-site Over The Edge experts will train you ahead of your rappel, letting you wear the harness, go through the motions and really get a feel for what this wild ride will be like. Your safety and confidence are of paramount concern!
CAN I WEAR MY SPIDER-MAN COSTUME?
Sure. You can dress the part in athletic pants and a shirt and closed-toe shoes, which is standard, but you also can have some extra fun with a costume. As long as it’s not crazily proportioned – and, again, can fit in the harness – it should work. Just let us know your plans ahead of time so we can make sure!
I CAN’T DO THIS, BUT CAN I ASK SOMEONE ELSE I THINK WOULD BE PERFECT?
By all means! Not only can you ask, but we’d love it if you would challenge. Have some fun with us and ask us for a “summons” for someone to appear and rappel in your stead. Think Toss Your Boss, Pitch Your Principal, Sling Your Shepherd … Call Sandra Snyder at 570-558-2490 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for specific details on how to playfully encourage someone to “represent” you or your group, your company or your congregation.
CAN MY COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION SPONSOR THIS EVENT?
Absolutely! We have several support levels available, some of which come with free rappelling spots. The visibility opportunities are excellent here. Again, call Sandra at the number above for complete details, also available by U.S. mail or email.
DO I HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING?
There is a $50 non-refundable registration fee, but that counts toward your total if you meet your minimum fundraising goal of $1,000. This way everyone starts with money in the bank, and the registration fee indicates you’re really in this with us. (And, yes, we’re all in this fabulously fun adventure together!)
WHO/WHAT IS OVER THE EDGE ANYWAY?
Over the Edge is a special-events company that provides signature events for non-profit organizations across North America. Participants are invited to raise pledges in exchange for the thrilling experience of rappelling over the edge of a local building. Over the Edge takes care of all technical aspects for the event, including the insurance, professional ropes staff and equipment. They are OSHA compliant, and Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians guidelines are strictly followed.
WHAT IF I DON’T RAISE THE MINIMUM?
CAN I STILL RAPPEL? We have every confidence you can raise the minimum and remind you that even small donations can go a long way. Think of it this way: If 100 of your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, etc., give you only $10 each, you’re in! Or 50 can give you $20, 20 can give you $50, etc. Will your employer make a matching contribution? Will your boss let the troops pay $5 to wear sweats to work on a Friday? Will a favorite restaurant or bar let you invite friends to a portion-of-proceeds night? Think as creatively as you wish! If for some reason you still really struggle and do not make the minimum, a few options are outlined in the Edger packet you will receive after you register. Just remember we are here to work with you and help you every step of the way!
I STILL HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS? WHERE DO I TAKE THEM?
Please email Sandra Snyder at email@example.com or call her at 570-558-2490. She’s all ears – and all cheerleader for this cause!

WHO: We are NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania, part of the congressionally chartered National NeighborWorks Network, which includes more than 240 independent, community-based nonprofit agencies serving more than 4,500 urban, suburban and rural communities across the United States. This network is supported by NeighborWorks America, the country's pre-eminent housing and community-development leader.
We believe in vibrant, healthy and sustainable Northeastern Pennsylvania neighborhoods and have been promoting and preserving homeownership for nearly 35 years.
WHAT: We invite you to support us in this extremely exciting, never-before-seen-in-Scranton urban-adventure fundraiser to benefit our elderly, disabled and disadvantaged neighbors who are struggling to keep up with or hang on to their homes.
WHEN: June 10, 2016 (Media/Preview/VIP Day) and June 11, 2016 (The Main Event!) This new-to-NEPA event will take place during the nationally celebrated NeighborWorks Week.
WHERE: The tallest building in Scranton! That’s Bank Towers at 321 Spruce St. (If you’re not from NEPA, yes, Scranton is the “home” of the “Dunder Mifflin Paper Company” a la “The Office.” It’s also Hillary Rodham Clinton’s and Vice President Joseph Biden’s native land. AND it’s where Edith Bunker insisted on vacationing. Remember how old Archie asked what was in Scranton!? Bank Towers, of course, off of which charitable, adventurous people are going to rappel!
WHY? Well, for starters, these people are ALL KINDS OF COOL, willing to escape their comfort zones, slay their fears and just dare themselves to make a difference by doing something completely different. But they also believe in Northeastern Pennsylvania, especially its neighborhoods and the amazing power of neighbors, so they’re signing on to say they care about the future of our local communities.
HOW: Be among the first 92 people to raise (or pay) a minimum of $1,000, and you will secure a coveted spot to go Over The Edge in this, our inaugural event year. (Say loudly and proudly that you did it first!)
