The unfortunate event during the 2013 Boston Marathon took away Lingzi from her family and friends too soon, but the legacy she left behind has lived on. Boston University welcomed its first Lu Lingzi Scholarship recipient in 2015, communities of different cultures and individuals of different backgrounds have become closer because of her.
In 2014, seven individuals from Boston University were selected to run the Boston Marathon in her memory. We didn’t know each other at the time but were both fortunate enough to be chosen, and forged an unbreakable bond of friendship thereafter.
The 2014 Boston Marathon gave us the opportunity to honor and celebrate the wonderful life Lingzi had led, a life characterized by her passion for music and adventure, her humanism reflected in her times teaching at a village primary school in China as a volunteer, and her countless academic achievements.
And this year, we will be both finishing up our graduate degrees at Boston University. To run again during our last year in this city is our way to give back for this friendship born of tragedy, and to continually support the foundation’s effort in providing education opportunities for those who share the same passion and ideals as Lingzi.
Thus we sincerely hope you can support and join us in remembering Lingzi — a daughter, a dreamer, a voracious learner, and a passionate young woman who left this world better than the one she came in.
