BENEFITING: VanderCook College of Music
ORGANIZER: VanderCook College of Music
EVENT: 2015 Chicago Marathon
EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2015
Hi my name is Yolanda Perez and I am a proud member of the VanderCook Associate Board. I am also a proud mother of two boys, Christian and Gabriel. My older son, Christian, is currently enrolled at VC and will be entering his final year this coming fall. VC is providing him with the tools to become a music educator and the skills to be able to teach and share his passion with future students. Both of my boys learned to play music in the 5th grade and continued to play throughout their high school years under the direction of some great teachers including two VC Alum. VC played an important role during my son’s school years as they provide young students opportunities to attend clinicals and learn under the direction of some great VC teachers. Christian knew then that this is where he wanted to go to school and fulfill his dream to be able to study under one of his percussion idols, Professor Kevin Lepper.
Even though my younger son, Gabe, is not pursuing music education in college, he still has a love for music and said “Music is everything. How can anyone live without it?” I also believe this. I hope to be able to collect funds through this event to be able to provide assistance to anyone who shares a passion for music education and wishes to attend VC.
I could not do this alone, as I do not run, I turned to my good friend, Mark Oles to help me reach my goal. Mark is an avid runner and has participated in other races, but has never run the Chicago Marathon. So I challenged my friend to run and he generously accepted. Mark shares my passion for helping others and together we have participated in numerous community service events. I knew Mark would be a great fit to help bring awareness and raise funds for this great school. Run Mark Run!
We appreciate all of your support and donations. Thank you.
