THE STORY:

Hello, Mutt Militia.  My name is Abbey Cannon and I'm very excited and proud to be one of the Miles for Marley's Mutts runners running in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon this year. I am a mother of two, wife, pediatric nurse, animal lover, and runner. I started fostering last year and currently have 2 foster dogs whom I foster through Contra Costa Humane Society in northern California.
I started running about 7 years ago to cross off "run a marathon" from my bucket list. I trained for 12 weeks and ran the San Francisco Marathon in 2008 and was hooked.  I just ran the San Francisco Marathon for the third time in July, and  this will be my first time to run 2 marathons in one year. It has been a great and fulfilling challenge to take on as I am getting to help raise money for Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue.

When I moved to the East Bay in 2006, I started noticing the huge problem with animals here .  I started seeing loose dogs all the time, especially while out for a run. I learned about the dogs and cats in the shelters and how so many of them are not making it out. I started donating to shelters and rescues and learned about Marley's Mutts on Facebook a couple years ago. I love how they not only help the worst cases, but they also promote and provide low cost spay and neuter programs AND go to schools to teach kids and young adults on how to treat and properly care for their dogs. I agree and wholly support Marley's Mutts mission and want to do my part. This is why I decided to take on this challenge. The money raised will go towards Marley's Mutt Rescue Ranch, so they can help more dogs in need. Please donate what you can. Every dollar adds up and is so appreciated. THANK YOU!!!

For the 3rd year in a row, we are running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon! This is our second year as an Official Charity Partner of the Marathon, and we are thrilled to have almost tripled the number of runners on our team!

We are SO close to finally getting our dream: The Marley's Mutts Rescue Ranch! This facility will allow us to continue Rescuing Dogs, who Rescue People! Our scope of operations will expand to enable us to offer more programs that help our community, increase our Spay & Neuter Initiative, and change countless lives!
