THE STORY:
Some people buy jewelery or fast cars. Others get plastic surgery. For MY midlife crisis...I became a triathlete. I completed my first sprint triathlon on July 1, 2012 and finished dead last. I was 42 years old and it was one of the proudest moments of my life.
Now, due to the unquestionably bad influence of the Richmond Indiana triathlete community and with my husband's blessing (athough against his better judgement)...I have set my sites on IronMan Florida 2015. After a brutal 70.3 last May, I have a better idea of the time, effort and sacrifice it will take to get across the finish line. I'm training with the following goals in mind:
- To FINISH and to hear those words: Stephanie Kearns YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!
- To prove that you are NEVER too old to get off the couch and start taking care of yourself.
- To meet Penny Marshall, who inspired the whole thing in the first place.
- To give my kids and my husband a vacation in Florida after a year of neglect.
- To raise $3000 for the IronMan Foundation.
I hope you can help me reach these goals. You can follow my progress here and on my blog: www.fatgirlTRI-ing.com

All money raised through the TEAM IMF program will benefit The IRONMAN Foundation, and specifically - the Community Fund Program. This program benefits those in the communities where IRONMAN events are held, by providing charitable support to a variety of local non-profit organizations that recognize citizens in need and provide support to the local community.
Within those communities, the IRONMAN Foundation will provide grant funding opportunities to non-profit organizations, while also working with community leaders to identify projects that will benefit the community and provide funding to support those initiatives. The IRONMAN Foundation has provided funding opportunities of nearly twenty nine million dollars to numerous non-profit beneficiaries worldwide.
