Hit the trail for the sixth annual 'Healing with Horses' walk-a-thon to benefit Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Center!! Riders at Centaur Stride are gearing up for the Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center’s upcoming 'Healing with Horses' walk-a-thon event, March 15th at the Chautauqua Mall. We hope you’ll consider hitting the trail with us by:
- Participating in the walk – Start a team or individual walkers are welcome
- Sponsoring a rider or horse – It takes $300 to care for a single horse for one month!!
- Sponsoring a rider- Donate to a rider's 'Healing with Horses' walk-a-thon page to help that rider raise the money for his/her team/horse
Funds raised will also help subsidize the rider fees to keep the price affordable for many. The actual value/cost per lesson varies from $37-168 depending on the rider's needs and abilities (the high end requiring a therapist and 2 other helpers, the low end an independent rider). However, riders are charged only $30/lesson, regardless of actual cost.
Located in Westfield, N.Y., Centaur Stride has been providing programs to benefit people with disabilities in our region, enriching the lives of more than 150 children and adults with cognitive or physical challenges, as well as their families. Many riders have participated for many years, as there are very few activities they are able to enjoy, and even less that promote their physical and social well-being. Centaur Stride Therapeutic Horseback Riding has been providing an inclusive environment of recreational enrichment for persons with and without disabilities from its facilities since 1993.
The benefits of therapeutic horseback riding expand across physical, cognitive, emotional and social domains. The joy experienced by family members just to see their child engaging in something that they are able to do is monumental. The programs are labor intensive and require many people to assist. Therefore, each rider and family has the community to thank for the generous donations and volunteer support.
Thank you for helping provide healing, hope and joy to our riders!
