THE STORY:

HELP EVERYONE ACCESS FRESH LOCAL FOOD!

Help us raise funds to provide farm fresh food!
Since 2014, the Cambridge SNAP Match Coalition* has successfully raised funds to provide extra funding to shoppers at  three Cambridge farmers markets.  Shoppers who are purchasing fresh food with SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as “food stamps”) are eligible for Cambridge SNAP Match funds up to $15 in match per shop, enabling them to buy $30 in local food for just $15 in SNAP funds. Also, the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP)**, administered by the state for SNAP recipients,  provides extra funds for fruits and vegetables, bringing even more shoppers to the Farmers Markets, and providing more food to people.
The SNAP Match funds are available to three markets: The Central Square Farmers Market and the Harvard Market in summer and the Cambridge Community Center, Cambridge Winter Farmers Market.

Will you help us do this?  Thank You!
Here’s what  SNAP customers in Cambridge are saying about SNAP matching:

“You would have to be crazy to not love the SNAP Match program. It provides me with the opportunity to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables” – Cambridge Elderly Resident “I love the SNAP Match program because it helps me buy more fruits and vegetables for my family. I love to cook and provide my family with healthy vegetables. SNAP Match helps me because I can plan what I am going to cook for my family every week based on the affordable produce at the farmers market.” – Cambridge Mom “The SNAP Match program helps me with buying more nutrient rich food. It is more difficult to afford fresh food from supermarkets so it’s great to have this opportunity from SNAP Match”  – Cambridge Student “At farmers markets you can get more food for cheaper. SNAP Match is like a supplement, it really makes the difference between eating and not eating every week” – Disabled Cambridge Resident  *Participating Cambridge Farmers Markets include: Harvard Yard Farmers Market, Central Square Farmers Market, and the Cambridge Winter Farmers Market

*The Cambridge SNAP Match Coalition is a collaboration of the Cambridge Public Health Department, the City of Cambridge Community Development Department, Food for Free, Mass Farmers Markets, Harvard University, the Cambridge Community Center, and the Cambridge Community Foundation (acting as the coalition's fiscal sponsor).

**HIP, the Healthy Incentives Program, is a statewide program that provides additional funding to SNAP recipients for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables.
