Hello and welcome to my page! I am so excited to be given this opportunity to raise money for such an amazing cause! I am a wife, a teacher, an 8 time marathoner (this will be my 5th consecutive Boston Marathon) and I am fortunate beyond belief that I have three fantastic children.
My youngest was born at 32 weeks and weighed only 3 lbs 8 oz. She spent 42 days in a NICU before coming home to her 18 month old brother and 3 year old sister. During those exhausting days back and forth to the hospital, I remember the "family room". There was a tv, books, games, small kitchen always stocked with food and drinks, and couches. I would take breaks every once in a while and visit that space during my six hour visits. It's amazing how much a change of scenery and a cup of tea can do to rejuvenate you during an exhausting and stressful time. The Ace Bailey Foundation raises money for Boston's Floating Hospital for children at Tufts a Medical Center. They provide so much for families going through challenging and stressful visits to the hospital. The fact that I now have a chance to give back in a way that made such an impact on me is truly a blessing. I look at my now 6 year old and although I can't believe it was so long ago, I really does feel like just yesterday.
You may be wondering who Ace Bailey is and how this foundation originated. Garnet "Ace" Bailey is a former Boston Bruin who was killed in the attacks of September 11th. His family founded this organization to help keep his memory alive by making a difference in the lives of children and families going through some difficult medical treatments. They focus on creating family friendly, softer enviroments to reduce the stress on families.
As a huge hockey, and especially Bruins fan, I cannot believe how perfect it is that I can use my passion for running to make an impact on a cause so close to my heart. I appreciate all of your support and be sure to high-five me on Marathon Monday!
