BENEFITING: CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY INC
ORGANIZER: CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY INC
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
After a few years of loafing around, I am returning to the word of endurance athletics on April 20th by running the 119th Boston Marathon. This will be my 5th time running Boston and my first since the attacks in 2013. I couldn’t be more excited to be running this very special marathon.
Making this marathon even more special is the fact that I will be running for such a worthy cause. I am honored to be part of the Christmas in the City team. What is CITC? Simply stated, this charity provides the homeless children of Boston a Christmas, granting them a gift, a meal with their family, an enjoyable celebration in a Winter Wonderland and, most importantly, a lasting impression that there are those in society that care. CITC has been a non-profit since 1989 and it entirely organized and operated by volunteers and pro bono services. Last year alone, CITC served almost 8,000 children in a signature gift-giving event, complete with a luncheon feeding thousands of families, rides and the opportunity to meet Santa and his friends.
I have lived in Boston for over 20 years, so that is a lot of running on the streets, sidewalks and trails around the Charles. Not a run passes without me seeing someone less fortunate than myself and while it is easy to complain about the weather, being tired or achy… I try to remind myself that it is a blessing to be able to run and have that be the most difficult part of my day. Being part of the CITC team has given me the opportunity to make a contribution to the community I have chosen to be a part of while doing something I love.
I hope that you will join me in supporting CITC. On Marathon Monday I will be thinking about how lucky I am to be part of such a great day in our city, but also how fortunate I am to have friends and family who support me in all these crazy endeavors. Thank you all so much.
