2014 Minnesota Power Tunnel 10k and Wheels Off Half Marathon
The Minnesota Power Tunnel 10K and Wheels Off Half Marathon is proud to partner with the American Red Cross to raise money to make a difference both here in the Northland, as well as in each of the communities that our racers come from. By supporting the American Red Cross, we are supporting an organization that has been making a difference in the Duluth area since 1915, and nationally since 1881.
When disaster strikes, American Red Cross workers are among the first on the scene, providing food, shelter, supplies and hope. Each year, the American Red Cross responds to around 70,000 natural and man-made disasters in the U.S., ranging from fires to hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous material spills, transportation accidents and explosions. The Red Cross provides assistance to residents affected by disasters both large and small.
The Red Cross also plays a key role in supporting our Service Members and their families through their ‘Service to the Armed Forces’ role. The American Red Cross’ unwavering commitment to members of the U.S. military, its veterans and their families continues to grow and develop more than a century after Clara Barton first recruited nurses to support the U.S. Army. Red Cross support of military members and their families enhances morale and contributes to the resiliency of service members and their families.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
