The fourth annual Kimmswick 5K is raising much-needed funds for The Nancy Ratliff Medical Fund and to support the battle against ALS. In 2009, Nancy Ratliff - daycare teacher and director, Montessori school teacher, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother - was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease), which quickly and cruelly ravaged her body, leaving her completely paralyzed within a year, reliant on eye movement alone to communicate, a ventilator to breathe and a feeding tube to eat. Nancy requires 24-hr medical care at home, which far exceeds her health insurance coverage and the family's resources. The Medical Fund helps to offset the catastrophic medical bills.

About the Race
In 2011, the Ratliff family teamed up with The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery to help defeat ALS by starting the Kimmswick 5K. The race, which winds through historic Kimmswick, MO and the Anheuser Estate along the Mississippi River, is in honor of Nancy Ratliff, an amazing woman who continues to touch and inspire lives and stay active in the community despite the disease. Since its inception in 2011, the event has raised over $80,000 and it has been amazing to watch hundreds of runners and walkers turn up for the race each year, with top finishers vying for the delicious grand prize, The Blue Owl's famous levee high apple pies.
About Nancy and the Medical Fund
In the summer of 2009, Nancy Ratliff - daycare teacher and director, Montessori school teacher, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother - was diagnosed with ALS. We watched helplessly as the disease quickly, cruelly and inhumanely ravaged Nancy's body, leaving her unable to use her limbs, eat, drink or even breathe on her own. Within a year, she was completely paralyzed, reliant on eye movement alone to communicate, a ventilator to breathe and a feeding tube to eat – her mind torturously trapped inside her body.
The rapid progression of Nancy’s disease now requires 24-hr medical care, and the cost far exceeds her health insurance coverage and the family’s resources and continues to grow. The Medical Fund helps to offset the catastrophic medical bills.
Thank you so much for your contribution. All donations are made through the Victory Christian Fellowship Church Inc. The Victory Christian Fellowship Church Inc is the umbrella organization for the Nancy Ratliff Medical Fund and they’ll allocate the funds raised to the Nancy Ratliff Medical Fund.
