EVENT DATE: Apr 29, 2017
The goal of this collective effort is to mobilize at least 1,000 people to put aside one dollar a day for the first 100 days of Trump's administration to help defend human rights for all Americans. 100 Days / 100 Dollars will provide $100,000 to be distributed to three key organizations working to address direct threats and promote civil liberties for all. We the people will stand together in the face of these threats. $100,000 is our goal; it could be more, it could be less. Every dollar counts.
100 Days / 100 Dollars is a response to what many of us are grappling with right now—fear; anger; confusion over the best way to take action, when so many peoples’ rights are threatened anew—and a way to address our longing to do something tangible and focused.
Some members of our American family -- African-American, Mexican-American, and Muslim in particular -- are being threatened and attacked on the basis of race, ethnicity, and/or religious belief. We are all diminished by this, whatever our individual race, ethnicity or faith.
It is crucial to provide an influx of funds to key organizations working to address these threats at a systemic level.
To this end, 100 Days / 100 Dollars is focusing on the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and the American Civil Liberties Union. All three organizations have solid track records of taking action to protect and defend people against discrimination, hate crimes, and the violation of their civil liberties. We encourage you to donate an equal amount to each organization, but also respect if you chose to focus on one.
By collectively pooling resources, we can make a statement. We will not sit idly by, fretting over Trump’s blatant bigotry and xenophobia to the point of paralysis.
We are taking this opportunity to push ourselves financially to give as much as we can, and to join together to maximize our impact. Further, by using CrowdRise as our crowdsourcing software, we can gather tax-deductible donations and pass them directly to these three organizations during the first 100 days of the Trump administration. This act is one specific approach to putting Trump in check and making a statement that people of goodwill across America reject religious and racial intolerance.
We hope this collective effort of 100 Days / 100 Dollars inspires and provides you an opportunity, as a person who cares deeply about the well-being of all people, to take action.
